'Boogie at the Barn'

1st Annual Barn Dance at the old Alderfer Barn at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park Friday, October 12 from 6pm to 11pm For the first time in decades, the old Alderfer Ranch barn at Alderfer/Three Sisters Open Space Park will be open for the community to enjoy on Friday, Oct. 12, when its caretakers host “Boogie at the Barn," a high-energy evening reminiscent of the foot-stompin' barn parties held by Hank and Barbie Alderfer during the ranch's heyday. New! Six original paintings of the barn from local artists at Stoneheart Gallery were created for Boogie at the Barn and will be sold at the event. These paintings can be viewed and purchased in advance as well at the gallery in downtown Evergreen. The entire proceeds from the paintings will go towards the restoration efforts. The barn dance -- featuring music by ‘Something Underground’ -- will offer many their first opportunity to get inside of this beloved barn. Currently used by Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) for storage, the barn had its beginnings over 100 years ago. The log portion was part of the original Hester Homestead in the 1850's. The traditional timber framed portion of the barn was built in 1900, then expanded by Hank and Barbie Alderfer in the 1970's before being sold to Jefferson County Open Space in 1985. Hank says, "The barn was the center of recreation for an agricultural kid! It's great to see that good times and laughter are returning to this beautiful place." The "Boogie at the Barn" dance party was conceived by John Erlandson, local musician and concert producer, as a way to bring life back to the old barn and involve the community with Evergreen Park and Recreation District in a limited restoration of the historic facility. Erlandson and Pandora Reagan are caretakers of the Alderfer Ranch House, and are working in partnership with Evergreen Park & Recreation District to host this event. Proceeds will go toward limited restoration efforts for the barn and ranch. The highly touted Denver-based dance band “Something Underground” will headline the event. Instantly recognizable for its brotherly harmonies, ‘Something Underground” is a growing musical force that is winning people’s hearts with its energetic blend of rock, reggae, folk and pop. Consisting of brothers Josh and Seth Larson on vocals, bass, guitar and keys, and Trevor Mariotti on drums, its members are as well known for their tireless support of charity organizations and community building as for their passionate stage performance and loyal fans. ”Boogie at the Barn” is sponsored by Colorado Serenity, Bergen Park Paint, John Erlandson Fine Painting and Intero Real Estate, and organizers are seeking additional sponsors.
